The MTN Nigeria Foundation has announced scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students, aimed at supporting education and empowering future leaders. The online registration portal is now open for interested undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The annual award amount has been increased from N200,000 to N300,000 for eligible students. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, and other academic expenses. The application deadline is June 12, 2024.

Types of MTN Scholarships

There are three main academic scholarships available from MTN:

1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS):

  • Established in 2010, this scholarship supports 300-level students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions (universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education) pursuing Science and Technology-related fields.
  • Each year, 300 students maintaining good grades receive scholarships of N200,000, renewable annually until graduation.

2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS):

  • Launched in 2012, this program supports visually impaired students in 200 and 300-level programs enrolled in Nigerian public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
  • 100 high-achieving visually impaired students will each receive a ₦300,000 scholarship annually until graduation if they meet the grade requirements.

How to Apply for the 2024 MTN Scholarship

1. Check Eligibility

Institution of Study:

  • Students enrolled in Nigerian public tertiary institutions (universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education) can apply for either the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) or the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS).

Course of Study:

  • The MTN STS is available to undergraduates majoring in science or technology-related fields.
  • The MTN SBS is for visually impaired students in their second or third year of study.

Level of Study:

  • MTN STS is open to students advancing to or currently in 300 level.
  • The MTN SBS is available to blind students in their second or third year of study, and third-year law students.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):

  • For MTN STS: STEM students must maintain a CGPA of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale) or 3.5 (second-class upper). HND aspirants need a CGPA of 3.0 or higher in their OND program. Direct Entry students must have at least a CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit).
  • For MTN SBS: Visually impaired students must maintain a CGPA of 2.5 or higher. Polytechnics students need a minimum CGPA of 2.0 in their OND program and must be accepted into the HND program.

2. Gather Required Documents

Ensure all documents are well-organized and meet the specified requirements:

  • Recent passport photograph
  • Valid identification card
  • Admission letter
  • Academic transcripts
  • Letter of recommendation from a reputable academic referee
  • A concise biography and explanation of why you deserve the scholarship

3. Visit the MTN Foundation Scholarship Portal

Access the application portal through the official website at MTN Scholarships. Accurately fill in the 7-step application form with personal details, contact information, and academic background. Provide correct and verifiable information to avoid disqualification.

4. Review

Review all provided information and attached documents. Make any necessary edits or corrections.

5. Submit

Once satisfied with your application, submit it through the portal.

By following these steps, eligible students can successfully apply for the MTN Scholarship and potentially receive financial support for their educational endeavors.
